Eep! It's introduction time! Okay here goes...

Pleased to Meet You!

Hello to all you pawesome underdogs reading this post. First and foremost, before you think I've insulted you, I'm going to reassure you that underdogs are the exact kind of hoomans that:

a) I identify with/as,

b) I count myself lucky to call my best friends,

c) Are the richest in thought, compassion and love out of anyone I have ever met, ever.

I'm Nikki Waterson, founder of Paws for Giving. When I'm not building this socially conscious gift shop, I've been in emergency services 👮‍♀️ for over 10 years and have stayed sane by also being an artist, author and illustrator.

I'm now based in Adelaide after moving from place to place since finishing High School. On the cusp of turning 30 (bring it on!), I've finally settled somewhere that feels like home. grew up in Sydney and moved to South Australia where I relocated to three rural and remote towns for work for 7 years.

The thing I am most passionate about in life is helping others. Other hoomans, animals, the Earth (though like many millennials, I'm really only catching up on the eco side of things, I'm putting it out there to hold myself accountable).

That need to help definitely contributed to my career choice in a huge way, and it definitely is why I strongly identify as an obsessive gift giver. For anyone who hasn't already taken the Love Languages test, please do. It will change your relationships, platonic and romantic, for the better.

Unfortunately, wanting to help others has led to a few run-ins. It turns out that when you go around with sincerity, drive, and the standard naivety that comes with being a new adult out in the real world, you need to pick your crowds carefully. I've learnt this over time, and it means that I have never really felt like I fitted in. Until I created Paws for Giving.

I started Paws for Giving as a way to channel the intense need I have to helping others, and to know I'm doing something about social injustice. Paws for Giving is just starting out, and I'm not going to get everything perfect, but I will do my best. I am proud of our excellent relationships with our many wonderful partners and customers, check out some of the testimonials on Our Impact page.

Here are two Rescue Partner testimonials that make me incredibly happy every time I read them, which I probably do more than I should admit to... Okay like once a week at the moment.

You will also notice from Our Impact page that as of 1 January 2021 we have donated $1,012.31 to 37 different Aussie animal rescue groups and fulfilled 139 orders.

So how have we already donated to Aussie animal rescue groups before launching?

Paws for Giving has been around since Christmas 2019. It used to just be a product range, not a whole store and business.

I count myself so lucky to be surrounded by people who I love very much, and to know that I spend each day working towards building a better future for the underdogs in the world, in whatever little way I can.

So, welcome to Paws for Giving! Please say hello! And if some part of my abridged story resonates with you, let me know. It's a big adjustment for me to put myself out there in this way, but I've seen many brilliant women do the same, and I need to in solidarity if anything!
